            Every day, we enjoy a lot of delicious dishes which are diverse about not onlyflavor and color. However, it is quite sure that you spend a little time discovering how beautiful they are or what Vietnam cuisine is. In fact, Vietnamese cuisine is the cooking and baking of various foods and beverages developed in Vietnam.You must not have known that Vietnamese cuisine can be considered one of the healthiest in the world. More than that, the Saturday meeting this week helped us have the deeper look around Vietnamese cuisine, from typical Vietnamese family meal to regional specialties. 

We started our meeting with a rhetorical question from the MC about the “Doan NgoTet”, which immediately attracted the attention from all members. Food is obviously a good choice to make us become closer.

            After making acquaintances actively and confidently, it was followed by an informative but amusing discussion. Members from different parts of the country had a chance to talk about their regional specialties, from which ingredients are needed for a “gai” cake to how to make “banhcuon” properly.

                         Members are talking about their hometown specialties enthusiastically.

Next came a small game, bringing us lots of laugher. Each pair of members had to compete against each other to touch the word called by the MC on the board. This game not only enriched the vocabulary of the players but tested the members’ response as well.

The last part of the meeting was possibly the most fascinating section, when each five-member group could coordinate and cooperate to design a menu of their restaurant. We were impressed by a restaurant for lovers as well as a “self-sufficient” one. After this activity, we could improve both our teamwork skills and creativity simultaneously.

In conclusion,making friends, sharing love of foods, designing creative menu are unforgettable things we did together. Thank all of you for attending our meeting and creating a friendly and dynamic environment for practicing English and soft skills. We hope that they will become our memorable moments.     3:45 – 4:00: Playing an interesting game

    4:00 – 4:45: Discussing in groups

·         Suppose that your group wants to run a Restaurant with many dishes of Vietnamese cuisine at a foreign country for not only Vietnamese people resident there, but also foreigners to promote Vietnam image. Now, what you have to do are to take the following requirements:

1.      Name your Restaurant and choose dishes which are Vietnamese cuisine

2.      Design and draw the MENU of your restaurant on the given paper

3.      Present and explain your picture.

Practical Knowledge with a workshop: “Speaking English confidently and fluently” 

Nowadays, the desire of speaking English confidently and fluently has been raised up among people in every corner of the world; this is also true with Vietnamese people. How many times have you wondered why you still speak English unnaturally and hesitantly? And why is it? Recognizing that problem, the useful workshop named “speaking confidently and fluently” was held on 17^th June 2012 at GLN IELTS Review Center at Floor 10 Keangnam in an effort to improve English speaking skills of non-native speakers.

It is obvious that the practical workshop attracted the great concern of over a hundred of people with various range of ages, greatly contributing to the success of the workshop. Initially, the very exciting dance named “GLN Dance” which was performed by key members of GLN English club brought the exhilarating atmosphere for the workshop.

       The most expected part of the workshop is to share English speaking experiences with skilled and qualified guests, who are Mr. Darryl, being teacher of GLN Center and having much experience in reviewing IELTS, Mr. Phuc, getting high IELTS score, and Ms. Ha My, being one of the top of five people of the Beepro annual contest held by English club of Foreign Trade University. Until now, we have not only learned useful tips of speaking English, but realized our existed mistakes in studying English as well. Especially, one of many tips to practice speaking English is to pronounce all English sounds exactly.

       Last but not least, the audiences were impressed by “Speaking English contest” that numerous participants wanted to be the contestants. It is sure that the contest was not only your real experience, but also the way to verify your level of speaking English and your confidence, especially of the winners of this contest.

       After all, GLN English Club, together with GLN IELTS Review Center had brought the very handy Speaking workshop with many tips shared, chances to practice speaking English and joyfulness as well. Hopefully, GLN English Club will create more useful workshops for you to come in the future.

Have you ever thought about the role of advertising in our life? We see or hear a lot of advertisements on the TV sets, in the underground, on billboards, in newspapers and in the public transport. Today it seems impossible to imagine how our life is without advertisements. Don’t you think so? However, besides the effects that advertising has brought about, advertising industry still exists a lot of problems which raise the need for immediate solutions. Discussing the issue of advertising, we had a great time sharing ideas with one and the others in the club’s meeting this week.

Making acquaintances with new members in the part of breaking the ice is an inevitable part of each meeting. It seems that some people still felt like a fish out of water at the beginning when they stood up and introduced themselves. However, they become more enthusiastic when they explored the information from the friends sitting next to them.

“Breaking the ice” is followed by an informative and fascinating discussion with many questions relating to advertising like pros and cons of advertising. We also covered the general definition as well as the major features of modern advertising.  In general, all members realized the importance of advertising, its advantages, and its dark shade as well. Besides, they also made a good impression on the other’s mind about how to make an effective advertisement.

                                    All members are really into their discussing time.

Next, in the middle of the meeting, we indulged in a very interesting game named “Change your seat or you are loser”. The losers are the ones who cannot find their position in time and take a punishment after that.

The losers are ready to take the punishment in which they have to

dance following everything the winners do.

In the last part of the meeting, people had a chance to work in groups of 5- 6 members. They conferred ardently about advertising on some social networks. After that, they were asked to give a short presentation to show their ideas and their cooperation in their group. Obviously, all groups had good ideas about the issue; however, it would be better if they were independent from their prepared note taking paper as this eliminated the nature of their speaking.

In conclusion, making friends with other people, sharing our knowledge about advertising, indulging ourselves in the unforgettable moments of interesting games and improving our team work skills are all that we have gained after this meeting. Without your attendance, this meeting would not have achieved such an amazing success. Thanks for coming and sharing. Looking forward to seeing you guys in our next meeting!

“Don’t go out Alone”

127 HOURS FILM

            It seems that traveling is one of very interesting activities for young people who want to explore new places and find out new things in the world. However, not everyone knowshow to prepare necessary materials for a safe journey.The lessons we could learn from James Franco in “127 Hours” film are really useful. Especially, we also had joyful moment to share these lessons in the movie show of GLN EC this week.

As usual, we start the meeting with a game to “break the ice”. However it is unforgettable that the game named “What does the King need?” is really funny, as well as “horrible”. Perhaps, everyone joining the gamemust have remembered the image two “body builders”to take the shoes in an enthusiastic way from the charming girl – Ms. Hien.It is sudden and it also makes her confused.

After the game, the audiences becamevery quiet when the first scenes of the film started. The only thing they did wasjust paying attention to the film being shown on the screen.

We had really meaningful moments after watching “127 Hours”. Everyone was excited with the noisy melody of the music whichAronRalstonlistens in his journey and really relaxed with his sense of humor. Aron Ralston is positive and strong in his thinkingand in any circumstance, he always keep calm and find out appropriate solution to overcome the canyon both dangerous and wonderful. Everyone must not have forgotten the action of cutting off the arm of Aron Ralston which is to escape the dead and continue survival. “Carry plenty fluids”, “Inform someone of your friends”, “Don’t buy anything made in China” and “Don’t go out alone” are precious lessons we can’t miss.

            In short, we really have good chance to learn lessonsfrom the film, and the most important thing is that we can improve our English after discussing and sharing our feelings. This movie show is very successful and meaningful; of course it’s due to your attendance. So hope to see you next time!
