STUDY ABROAD IN YOUR EYES

Last Saturday, GLN English club welcomed more than 20 members to join “Study abroad in your eyes”. It is a hot topic in Viet Nam nowadays where there are a lot of students to decide to study abroad. Nguyen Minh Hang is MC of that program as well as the beautiful president of GLN . After making friends with one another, we played an interesting game. The rule of the game was to find one syllable word that begin with the last letter of a given word. All members were very excited to find their own word as quick as possible. It was very difficult to find the winner because it seemed that almost were intelligent people. Finally, we found a winner-Mr. Hung, a regular member of GLN English club who spent 2 year living and studying in UK.

More interesting, we continued joining the part “discuss in pair”. The atmosphere became hotter and hotter because of the discussion sounds from every members. They talked, argued and shared in an enthusiastic way. After 15 minutes discussing in pair, we shared with one another. All ideas were very useful. Especially, we could listen to the experiences from studying abroad from Mr. Hung who spent 2 year in UK.

Perhaps, work in group needed to respond quickly because 2 groups debated with each other. One was about the advantages of studying abroad and the others was the disadvantages. In one debated issue, it was very difficult to decide which side was right or wrong. Everything had two side, of course.

Finishing at 4h30, some members stayed to watch movie, some decided to go home. Nonetheless, it heavily rained. Thus, some members in GLN decided to find a coffee restaurant to share with one another.

We had a good time sharing our hobby and our point of views in life.

STUDY ABROAD IN YOUR EYES

STUDY ABROAD IN YOUR EYES

Many students choose to attend schools or universities outside their home countries. Why do some students study abroad? Use specific reasons and details to explain your answer.

Knowledge itself is a power. Thirst of knowledge took many famous historians to different parts of this world. Mahatma Gandhi went to South Africa to study law and returned as a great scholar with a conviction of helping people of his country to get justice. Likwise, many students prefer studying abroad because of various reasons. I think students are inclined towards pursuing their studies outside their home countries due to various reasons such as for higher standards of education, better campus facilities, to enlighten their resume and for better employment opportunities.

In some developing countries, where the standard of imparting education is not very high, students prefer foreign universities to do further studies. For instance, if the student discovers that his field of interest such as aeronautical engineering, biotechnical or nanotechnological engineering, do not have good colleges in his home country or are less and it is difficult to get through any of them, he thinks of going abroad and take admission there to quench his desire to do a higher level of study.

Some universities have excellent infrastructure, good research facilities and attractive scholarships for students. These factors attract a student who wants to achieve success in his career path but the universities in his home country are deficient of the above requirements. Some foreign universities offer attractive scholarships to students studying at an undergraduate or graduate level, which can also be the reason behind student’s motivation since it makes him independent while studying.

Degree from a good foreign university always adds up to one’s resume. A person after achieving a degree/diploma certificate from abroad improves his credentials and opportunities of employment. Response to such students in developing countries is overwhelming as far as job matters are concerned.

Many students, after completing their education from universities abroad, seek employment legally in these countries especially, if the economy of the foreign country is better than his home country. These countries offer them better salary packages and benefits, which they may not expect in their own country. So, some students have a notion that studying abroad opens their doors to the employment in the outer world.

Game show : Mid-autumn festival

Last week, GLN English club help an interesting program about mid-autumn festival. A quite small room were so hot with nearly 30 enthusiastic people. This is the first time we hold a game show like this after having a picnic to go to Couple hill (Nui Doi ), Soc Son.

The program promised many surprised games and presents from GLN English club. Many members were very happy and eager to sit together and took part in the first game : guess words related to mid-autumn festival. With two interesting rounds, we laughed so much both in the first round, each member had to explain the word, not say the word and the second round, just used body language and action to express word. What a pity if you did not join that program to enjoy some funny ways to express the word from two groups.

The program continued attracting all members when each people would receive a present after finishing the program. In the part “discuss in pair”, the atmosphere became more and more exciting. A lot of members wanted to share with one another after discussing with their partners. Nevertheless, time was limited, just some people raised their hands first could share. It was unforgettable to listen to some beautiful stories and experience about their mid-autumn festival.

The part “work in group about holding a party for children in welfare center’ had to be canceled. Instead, we held a useful games before ending the program. It is more funny when each member, besides material presents, they were free to receive many mental presents. All of us shouted with a man that “you are beautiful and I love you” or some people sang some beautiful songs, some people told sweet words with the others.

During the program, almost, we can’t stand laughing. All members came back with their happy and satisfied faces.

Mid-Autumn Tet

“Vietnamese people celebrate Mid-Autumn as a children's festival characterised by the sound of drums and the twinkle of star-shaped lanterns (den ong sao) under the clear and vast tropical sky of bright clear moonlight and cool wind. Meanwhile, in China. Mid-Autumn Festival is also called Family Reunion Festival. No matter how far they are from home, Chinese return to their native place to reunite with their families and to honour their homeland. Anyone far from family at Mid-Autumn Festival longs for a letter from home.

There are several legends connected to the Moon Festival. The Moon Festival was initially a harvest celebration celebrated on the fifteenth day of eighth month on the lunar calendar, during which, the moon appears larger than at any time of the year. The moon represents fullness and prosperity of life.

During the Moon Festival, it is customary to give boxes of moon cakes (Banh Trung Thu) to family and special friends. The traditional moon cakes are usually very rich in taste. They have a bright yoke in the center to represent the moon. They are filled with lotus seeds, orange peel, ground beans.

Traditionally, during the night of Moon Festival, children parade on the streets, singing with colorful lanterns in hands. There are several different shapes of lanterns including butterflies, fishes, and stars. There are also lanterns which spin around when a candle is placed inside (den Keo Quan), symbolizing the seasonal spinning of the earth around the sun.

The flower dance and dragon dance are popular during Moon Festival. The Lord Earth, called Ong Dia, is the dancer who dances around the dragon, urging it on. Ong Dia has a very round, happy smiling moon-face. He represents the prosperity and wealth of the earth.

The Festival is exceptionally interesting for the children who play happily with the bright new toys. The toys are made from various different forms: the lion lead, the animal in folk tales and stories. The lanterns are colorful and of various kinds, such as the rabbit, the carp, etc. Besides traditional carton paper toys, plastic and bamboo plates, ships, tanks, etc. made of plastics with batteries and having remote controls are also on sale. This is understandable due to the economic improvements of the people. Whether organized in the city or countryside, the preserved tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival is reflected in the way the children play games such as seek-and-hide, lion dancing, lantern marching, etc.

The welcome-the-moon party in the evening is a good opportunity for the children not only to enjoy the food, but also to learn more from their grandparents”

Never say never!
